DPRD DKI Dukung Revitalisasi Pasar Baru, Tekankan Peran UMKM

DPRD Supports Pasar Baru Revitalization Project

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Vice Chairperson Wibi Andrino supports the Jakarta Provincial Government's plan to revitalize Pasar Baru in 2026. This project will integrate Pasar Baru with Lapangan Banteng and transform it into a night culinary center.

"It's essential to involve local MSMEs and existing business owners,"

Wibi emphasized that the revitalization process should not solely focus on aesthetics but must also ensure economic activities sustainability of residents who have relied on this area for decades.

"It's essential to involve local MSMEs and existing business owners from the early planning stages to ensure this transformation is inclusive and does not lead to gentrification,"he  said on Wednesday (6/11).

He hopes that the concept of integrating Pasar Baru with Lapangan Banteng can enhance pedestrian connectivity and access to public transportation. Thus, this area can become a new attraction for the community.

"This is a good initial step. We just need to oversee it together to ensure its implementation remains favorable to residents and the city's history," he added.

One of Commission D members, Ida Mahmuda, also welcomed this revitalization plan positively. She described the program as an extraordinary idea and encouraged Jakarta residents to support it.

"This is truly extraordinary. And now that it's in the planning stage, as a DPRD member, I certainly support this program. Let's support it together, Jakarta residents," she said.

According to her, the presence of a culinary center in Pasar Baru will open new income opportunities for residents and MSMEs, as well as the city's economy.

"Pasar Baru was once known as a shopping center for clothes and shoes, a favorite place for many people. If it's now complemented with a culinary center, the impact will undoubtedly be extraordinary," she expressed.

Previously, Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno referred to Pasar Baru as the "soul of Jakarta" and considered revitalization necessary due to the area's decline in visitors since the pandemic.

The revitalization plan will not only focus on beautification but also aims to enliven the area through nighttime economic activities. The Jakarta Provincial Government will also collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and managers of historic buildings around the location, such as Jakarta Arts Building and Post Office.
